College of Medicine: Application Procedures & Deadlines

A complete application consists of:

  1. American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)
  2. SUNY Downstate Medical Center Supplemental Application also known as the secondary
  3. A nonrefundable Application Processing Fee of $80
  4. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores
  5. Letter of recommendation from premedical advisor or committee (or two letters from college professors as listed above).

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that a complete application is on file.

If you decide to withdraw your application from consideration, in order to avoid further processing and to benefit other applicants, please notify the Office of Admissions immediately in writing either by email or fax to (718) 270-4775.

DO NOT submit materials beyond what is listed above.

The Supplemental Application, the processing fee, and letters of recommendation should be mailed to:

SUNY Downstate Medical Center encourages early application. A completed application should be on file by October 15 for maximum benefit. Click here for a complete list of deadlines.

Does Downstate have rolling admissions?

We have a modified rolling admissions process. Acceptance letters are issued beginning in mid-October and continue until the class is filled. An alternate list is also established in June.

Admission Deadlines

June 1, 2008 Earliest date to complete an AMCAS application.
August 1, 2008 Latest date for Early Decision applicants to file an AMCAS application.
August 15, 2008 Latest date for Early Decision applicants to have a completed application on file.
December 15, 2008 Latest date for applicants to have a completed application on file at AMCAS.
December 15, 2008 M.D. / Ph.D Latest Date to complete application with School of Graduate Studies.
February 1, 2009 Latest date to have a completed application on file in the Office of Admissions.
April 15, 2009 Latest Date to have a completed MPH application on file with the MPH Program for the June class.
May 1, 2009 Latest date to request a deferred acceptance.
May 15, 2009 Latest date for the $100 tuition deposit refund.
