Student Support Services

Office of Academic Development

In order to help students achieve their academic potential, SUNY Downstate Medical Center maintains the Office of Academic Development. Medical school presents a host of new learning challenges to incoming students since the subject matter volume, time constraints, and level of attention to detail far exceed those of undergraduate college. The Office of Academic Development offers programs incorporating efficient and effective approaches to learning, which lead to good retention of the material studied. It works closely with individual students as well as groups and faculty. Serving first-year as well as more advanced students, its support programs are available during the basic science and clinical years of study.

If you have a question about the accuracy of what you've heard on the rumor grapevine, or do not know where to find something, stop by the Office of Student Affairs for general assistance.
