Facilities
The Health Science Education Building (HSEB) opened in 1992. The building houses classrooms, laboratories, a 500-seat auditorium, and the medical library. The Library occupies three floors of the Health Education Building. The Library serves over 350,000 users on-site and over 16 million uses online. The nucleus of the holding was formed when the Academy of Medicine of Brooklyn and SUNY Downstate combined in the 1960’s, forming what is today known as the Medical Research Library of Brooklyn. Reference staff is available to provide consultation and help in using the Bibliographic Retrieval Services’ 150 databases. There is an Evidence Based Insituite and an Expert Searching service available to faculty, residents, and graduate students. Reference service is available via Resource Management Group as is ILL and Technical Services. The Library provides classroom scheduling, AV delivery (has it's own website), and an excellent biostatistics service via Scientific Computing, also available to faculty, residents, and graduate students. The Library has over 100 public workstations available and provides 24/7 access to its electronic collection via its website. New for 2010 is the Library Information Commons which will provide 24/7 access to a library service and study space.
Complementing the academic facilities is a campus environment, which includes two Residence Halls with apartment-style accommodations and a Student Center with recreational facilities and extracurricular programming of events.
