Accelerated Nursing: Admissions Criteria

  1. A baccalaureate degree in another discipline from a CHEA regionally accredited college or university
  2. A minimum undergraduate cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  3. A grade of “C” or better in the following prerequisite courses:

Anatomy & Physiology 2 with lab

Microbiology with lab* 3–4
Sociology/Anthropology 6
Psychology 6
English Composition 3
English Elective** 3
Statistics 3
Humanities/Social Sciences (include, but not limited to: Humanities, Political Science, Speech, Religion, Foreign Language, Philosophy, Economics, Additional Psychology, Additional Sociology, Additional Anthropology, Literature, Arts, Theatre, Music, and courses labeled Social Sciences...) 12

* Bacteriology does not meet this requirement

** In addition to English Composition, if your college has writing intensive courses listed and described as such in their catalog, these are also acceptable to fulfill the English Composition requirement.

PLEASE NOTE: All prerequisite science courses must have been completed within the past seven years of the date expected entry into the program.

4. Required Pre-entrance Exam

  • Nurse Entrance Test (NET)
  • The NET assesses (1) basic science reading comprehension, (2) math skills, and (3) written expression (grammar).
  • Register for the NET, using one of the following options:
    • By Phone:
      • call Educational Resources, Inc. at 1 (800) 299-EXAM, 8am – 5pm Central Standard Time (CST) and ask for Customer Service Center.
    • On the Web:
  • Pay the registration fee with a credit or debit card.
  • The minimum acceptable passing score for the MATH component is 65%.
  • The minimum acceptable passing score for the Science Reading component is 60%.
  • Both components must be passed for the applicant to be considered for admission
  • An applicant may re-take the test once within an admission/application cycle. A second registration will be required.
