Graduate Nursing Programs: Criteria

There are currently four Graduate Nursing Programs
- Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Nurse Practitioner
- Nurse Anesthesia
- Nurse Midwifery
Entering Class Admission Criteria
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation CHEA regionally accredited college or university
- A New York State R.N. license
- A cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- For Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 is preferred
- For Nurse Anesthesia, a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale is preferred
- A grade of “C” or better in the following undergraduate nursing courses:
- Statistics
- Nursing Research
- Undergraduate Health/Physical Assessment Skills
- The Nurse Anesthesia program requires a minimum of two years of current critical care experience, (EXCLUDING ORIENTATION), which must be completed within the last three (3) years by the time of application
- This experience must be completed at one of the following:
- Surgical Intensive Care
- Medical Intensive Care
- Neurological Intensive Care
- Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care
- Experience in the following settings (e, f, g) will be accepted, ONLY if combined with one of the experiences listed above (a, b, c, or d) for a minimum of one year.
- Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
- Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
- Coronary Intensive Care (CICU)
- For the Nurse Anesthesia program, critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is preferred
