Graduate Nursing Programs: Criteria

Degree level: Master of Science

There are currently four Graduate Nursing Programs

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Anesthesia
  • Nurse Midwifery

Entering Class Admission Criteria

  1. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation CHEA regionally accredited college or university
  2. A New York State R.N. license
  3. A cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    • For Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Practitioner, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 is preferred
    • For Nurse Anesthesia, a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale is preferred
  4. A grade of “C” or better in the following undergraduate nursing courses:
    • Statistics
    • Nursing Research
    • Undergraduate Health/Physical Assessment Skills
  5. The Nurse Anesthesia program requires a minimum of two years of current critical care experience, (EXCLUDING ORIENTATION), which must be completed within the last three (3) years by the time of application
    • This experience must be completed at one of the following:
      1. Surgical Intensive Care
      2. Medical Intensive Care
      3. Neurological Intensive Care
      4. Cardio Thoracic Intensive Care
    • Experience in the following settings (e, f, g) will be accepted, ONLY if combined with one of the experiences listed above (a, b, c, or d) for a minimum of one year.
      1. Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)
      2. Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
      3. Coronary Intensive Care (CICU)
  6. For the Nurse Anesthesia program, critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification is preferred
