Nursing RN-BS Program

RN-BS Program

The Nursing RN-BS program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center is a one year full time program open only to registered nurses and applicants who expect to complete the process of RN licensure by the date of enrollment. The curriculum is based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Essentials document, delineating the outcomes expected of graduates of baccalaureate nursing programs.

The RN to BS program is an innovative, hybrid program designed to be flexible for working nurses. The faculty provides the highest quality nursing education at an affordable price to help nurses achieve their goal of attaining a baccalaureate education. The program is designed with the working nurse’s schedule in mind. Since this is a hybrid program, with limited time on campus, students may complete the program’s curriculum in one year while working full time.

The program is offered on a semester basis, with three semesters of concentrated study. Flexible scheduling permits study for the most part on two days during the week.

Emphasis is on theory and skills applicable to health promotion and illness prevention; health assessment; clinical prevention and population health in community health nursing; bridging disparities; innovating healthcare; scholarship for evidence-based practice in research; healthcare policies and inter-professional collaboration in organizational leadership and management in nursing.
