The Bursar's Office, located in the Basic Science Building (Room
1-128), is responsible for reporting and disbursing to the State Comptroller
all money received at the Downstate Medical Center. These collections
include tuition, fees, residence hall rent, admissions deposits, library
fines and fees, and parking for our state garages.
The Bursar's Office also disburses all funds made available through
Federal, State, and local loan and scholarship programs. Students
are e-mailed when loan checks are available to be disbursed and refunds
are issued.
The cashier's window of the Bursar's Office is open Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
on Wednesdays. During registration periods, the Bursar's Office is
open on select evenings until 6:00 p.m.. Payment of most school charges
can generally be deferred until approved financial aid is received
by the school. We also accept certain time payment plans for the payment
of tuition.
Late charges are assessed for students who do not pay their tuition
bills on time. The due date for tuition payments is included
in the registration packets mailed to each student prior to the beginning
of the semester. For specific late fee charges and payment due
dates, please refer to the semester’s registration packet and/or
the student handbook for the current academic year.
As a courtesy, SUNY Downstate students are able to cash refund checks
issued at the Bursar’s Office at the JPMorgan Chase Bank branch
located at 883 Flatbush Avenue at the corner of Church Avenue in Brooklyn.
Please contact the Bursar’s Office directly to find out how to
take advantage of this resource.
The Bursar's Office accepts cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard and the
Discover cards for payment. Students with questions concerning the
calculation, deferment, or payment of their charges can call us Monday
through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at (718) 270-1078.
