GOP & EDPS Tuition Program(s)

Graduate Opportunity Program (GOP) and Professional Study Tuition Program for
Economically Disadvantaged (EDPS) support were initiated by Arthur O. Eve, the former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, in an effort to provide opportunities for economically disadvantaged students to undertake graduate level study. These funds are extremely limited.

EDPS: Student MUST submit the application below along with both parents 2015 Tax return along with their 2015 tax return. (Tuition Waivers) waivers must meet the University’s income guidelines for economic disadvantage. Not every potentially eligible student will get an award. SUNY Downstate will ONLY notify students that are eligible for those awards. These awards are ONLY for matriculated medical students.

GOP: Students receiving GOP waivers must have completed their undergraduate study through an opportunity program in New York State (i.e. EOP, HEOP, SEEK). Students MUST be matriculated degree seeking students enrolled full-time. Students MUST get a opportunity program certification completed and returned to the Admissions Office. Students may get a copy of the form at this link.

We have more potential students eligible then can be funded. The average award is less then $4,000.

SUNY Downstate will choose the neediest of all students who are potentially eligible to receive an award.

Students AND their parents MUST be NYS residents to be eligible for this award.

Students MUST be matriculated full-time students to be considered for this award.

Students MUST be in good academic standing to be eligible for an award.

SUNY-Downstate-EDPS-Scholarship-application

We anticipate having more eligible applicants then we are able to offer awards. Not all students will receive an award. Notifications and decisions will not begin until after the deadline dates. The scholarship committee will meet and make determinations on the number of awards and amount at that time. Awards are to be used for educational purposes only. Student’s with duplicative outside awards will not be considered for SUNY Downstate institutional aid. Incomplete applications will not be considered for an award. Scholarship funds are disbursed through the Bursar’s Office and if a student’s billing is paid in full the Bursar will issue a refund. The SUNY Downstate Scholarship committee shall be the sole decision-maker regarding the award of any scholarship, and its decision shall be final.
