Bureau of Indian Affairs Higher Education Program

This program provides supplemental financial assistance to eligible American Indian/Alaska Native students seeking a baccalaureate degree. Graduate student resources consist of a grant through the American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) which offers financial assistance to students pursuing post-baccalaureate degree programs. To be eligible, students must:

  • * be a member of a tribe recognized by the Bureau;
  • be one-quarter or more Native American;
  • have unmet financial need;
  • be working toward a four-year degree (baccalaureate seeking) or attending an accredited graduate degree program. Both undergraduate and graduate students must maintain full-time status;
  • complete application requirements

As a majority of the federally recognized tribes are administering the baccalaureate grant program for their members, we advised students to call their tribe first. If you need further assistance, contact the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Public Affairs MS-4245 MIB, 1849 C Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20240-0001, (202) 260-7408.
