ScholarshipsThe American Medical Association (AMA) FoundationEach year the AMA Foundation honors a select group of physicians and medical students who exemplify the medical profession’s highest values: commitment to service, community involvement, altruism, leadership and dedication to patient care. The AMA Foundation is currently accepting nominations and applications for the 2011 Excellence in Medicine Awards. Submissions are due Nov. 17, 2010. Other Scholarship ResourcesThe C.R. Bard Foundation PrizeNational Medical Fellowships Inc. Eligible candidates must be underrepresented minorities in their senior year of medical school. Candidates must be pursuing careers in cardiology or urology. Students must be nominated. Amount: $5,000. Franklin C. McLean AwardNational Medical Fellowships Inc. Competition is open to senior, underrepresented minority students currently enrolled in accredited U.S. medical schools. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding achievement and leadership. Amount: $3,000. Deadline: June 1. Irving Graef Memorial ScholarshipNational Medical Fellowships Inc. This scholarship is open only to rising, third-year medical students who received NMF financial assistance during their second year. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and leadership. Medical school deans must nominate students. Amount: $2,000. Deadline: April 1. James H. Robinson Memorial Prize in SurgeryNational Medical Fellowships Inc. Eligible candidates must be underrepresented minority students enrolled in accredited U.S. schools of medicine who will graduate during the academic year in which the award is made available. This award is given to students who demonstrate outstanding performance in surgery. Medical school deans and the general surgery chairpersons must nominate students. Amount: $500. Deadline: December 1. The Metropolitan Life Foundation Awards Program for Excellence in MedicineNational Medical Fellowships, Inc. This scholarship program is open to second- and third-year minority students who attend medical schools or have legal residence in the cities designated by the Metropolitan Life Foundation. Students must be nominated and provide documented proof of financial need. Amount: $3,500. Deadline: December 1. National Medical Fellowships Inc.254 W. 31st Street, 7th Floor Awards and fellowships are offered to African Americans, mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican Americans, and American Indians in their first or second year at an accredited school of allopathic or osteopathic medicine in the U.S. Must be U.S. citizen and demonstrate financial need. Write for complete information. William and Charlotte Cadbury AwardNational Medical Fellowships, Inc. This award is open to minority students enrolled in their senior years at accredited U.S. medical schools. Financial need is not a consideration. Candidates must be nominated by their medical schools during the summer preceding their senior year. Amount: $2,000. Deadline: June 1. W.K. Kellogg Community-Based Training Fellowship Program for Minority Medical StudentsNational Medical Fellowships, Inc. Competition is open to second- and third-year underrepresented minority students attending accredited U.S. medical schools. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement and motivation for careers as community-based primary care practitioners. Amount: $10,000.
