Issuance of Diploma
Upon faculty recommendation and with the approval of the
Committee on Admissions and Academic Standing (CHRP) or the Faculty Assembly
(College of Nursing), students are approved for degree/certificate completion
and are awarded diplomas three times each year. Each student’s
degree/certificate conferral date is the
next official graduation date after the degree/certificate requirements are completed.
The three official graduation dates are May 31
(Spring), August 31 (Summer), December 31 (Fall). There is only one Commencement
ceremony each year in May. Your permanent academic record notes the actual date
upon which your degree/ certificate requirements were completed.
Students who complete ALL graduation requirements, as outlined above,
and have NO outstanding financial or administrative
obligation to the institution, will receive their diploma as per the
following schedule:
| Graduation Date |

Students
who are expected to fulfill graduation requirements after the Commencement date,
but before August 31st, are permitted to participate in the Spring Commencement
Exercises. When you are contacted
to pick up your diploma, bring with you the diploma cover you receive
at Commencement in which to put your diploma.
You may request to have your diploma sent to you by mail. We
strongly discourage you from doing this because we cannot be responsible
for lost or damaged diplomas. If you still wish to have
it mailed, submit a letter to the Office of the Registrar in which
you include your name, student identification number (SID), the address
to which you want the diploma mailed and a check for $9.00 made payable
to SUNY Downstate.
