Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

Admissions Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree in any discipline from a college or university institutionally accredited and recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)  such as: the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Higher Learning Commission, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. If you have any questions about whether a transfer course will be accepted, you should check with the Office of Admissions prior to enrolling in the course.
  2. You must submit two letters of recommendation. SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University has moved toward exclusive use of electronic recommendation submissions. Your letters should be written by a current/former College Science Professor or an employer/supervisor, or another college professor. Recommendations by individuals other than your College Professor or Employer/Supervisor will NOT be considered. Please visit the application instructions to learn more about the letter of recommendation requirements.
  3. A minimum undergraduate cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. ATI TEAS - Please see pertinent information below.
  5. A grade of “C” or better in the following prerequisite courses:

It can be six(6) credits of Sociology OR Antropology or three (3) credits of each

*This requirement must cover from birth through aging. A combination of Child Psychology & Adult Psychology OR Child Psychology & Psychology of Aging will be accepted

PLEASE NOTE: All required prerequisite science courses must have been completed within the past seven (7) years of the date expected entry into the program. Any exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the faculty of the College of Nursing.

Required Examinations

Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS)

  • ATI TEAS measures basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of Reading, Mathematics, Science, English, and Language usage
  • The minimum acceptable passing scores for Math and Reading are 80%, a Science score of 80% is preferred.

  • An ATI TEAS on-line Practice Assessment is available for purchase on-line www.atitesting.com
  • The deadline to take or retake the ATI TEAS is: January 31, 2022 . An applicant may only retake the ATI TEAS once within an admissions cycle
  • The ATI-TEAS test is valid for two (2) years from the date originally taken
