Nursing RN-BS Program: One Year Full-Time Online Program

Admissions Requirements

  1. A minimum of 60 semester credits from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) such as the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, North Central Association, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. 
  2. You must submit two letters of recommendation. SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University has moved toward exclusive use of electronic
    recommendation submissions. Your letters should be written by a current/former College Science Professor or an employer/supervisor, or another college professor. Recommendations by individuals other than your College Professor or Employer/Supervisor will NOT be considered. Please visit the application instructions to learn more about the letter of recommendation requirements.
  3. A valid New York State R.N. license
  4. A preferred undergraduate minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale
  5. A grade of “C” or better in the following prerequisite courses:
Subject Semester Credits

Anatomy & Physiology 1 with lab AND
Anatomy & Physiology 2 with lab

OR

Anatomy w/Lab (4 crs) AND Physiology w/Lab (4crs)

General Chemistry 1 with lab 3–4
Microbiology with lab - Bacteriology does not meet this requirement 3–4

Sociology/Anthropology 

(Please note the number of credits required) It can be six(6) credits of Sociology OR Anthropology or three(3) credits of each.

Psychology Elective 3

Developmental (Lifespan) Psychology

*This requirement must cover from birth through aging. A combination of Child Psychology & Adult Psychology OR Child Psychology & Psychology of Aging will be accepted.

English Composition 3

English Elective 

In addition to English composition, if any additional humanities or social science courses is writing intensive and described as such in the college catalog, this course will be acceptable to fulfill the English requirement
